BACK TO THE PLANET: Back To The Planet (BTTP) formed while squatting together in London in 1989, and attracted a following throughout the early 1990s. when they played many festivals and were vociferous in their resistance to the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994.
Their music blends elements of ska, dub, punk, and dance music. Their first album, Warning the Public, was released on their own record label, Arthur Mix Records. In 1993, the band signed to Parallel Records and released a chain of singles. They split up in 1995, to pursue personal music projects, but happily reformed in 2006. They have been on the scene ever since, gigging regularly at venues and festivals and sounding as powerful as ever, drawing in a crowd of orginal and new fans.
They released a brand new EP earlier this year, “Kick Out”, which has been really well recieved by fans.
We were immensely pleased to have them play at Strawberry Fair this year and are very excited to be welcoming them back to Cambridge.
THE DEFEKTERS: The Defekters formed in late 2007 and have been working and playing hard ever since. The band bring a unique blend of bitter/sweet basslines, riddims and riffs with a conscious message aimed to move people. Hailing from Stevenage with their ska/ punk/ dub fusion, they have played alongside top acts such as Zion Train, Dreadzone, Palma International, Nucleus Roots, The Selecter, Easy Star All Stars,King Prawn, Inner Terrestrials and The New Town Kings to name a few…
Both the full band and lead singer Cara, have played for us several times, most recently, Cara performed a fantastic solo set at this year’s Fair.
DISSIDENT NOIZE FACTORY – Dissident Noize Factory play a mash up of punk, ska, gypsy break beat and electronic tunes. Original music to get the dance floor slammin.
LAST GANG IN TOWN DJ’S – Last Gang need very little introduction in Cambridge – this DIY punk collective have been constantly putting on gigs for the last 14 years and for the last 5 years have been hosting the Devil Kicks Dancehall at Boomtown Fayre as well as DJ’ing at Strawberry Fair in Scarecrow Corner.
