\nDrea m Wife started out as a fantasy… literally. Icelandic singer Rakel and Bri tish musicians Alice and Bella played their first show as part of a perfor mance project at art school in Brighton. Stuck in dreams of 90s club kid n ostalgia they continue on making music\, embracing their love for edgy pop . Dream Wife name David Lynch’s women as a big influence\; ‘powerful and s eriously f***ed up’.
\nThey play with the aesthetics of the 1960’s y é-yé girls movement\, along with current influences such as Sleigh Bells\, Le Tigre and Grimes. Dream Wife ooze with girl power\; infecting the crow d with their trademark ‘poolside pop with a bite.’ The music juxtaposes si mple pop hooks\, beats\, cutting riffs and dreamy vocals.

Yard Act formed in Leeds in September 2019 when Ryan Needham found him self temporarily living in James Smith’s spare bedroom. The two had been p ub associates for years\, but their new living circumstances served as a c atalyst for their friendship and creative partnership which saw them fuse James’ interest in spoken word with Ryan’s primitive proto-punk demos usin g an ancient drum machine and borrowed bass guitar. They released their fi rst material in March 2020\, coinciding with you-know-what\, and with just three singles (The Trapper’s Pelts\, Fixer Upper and Peanuts) and three g igs to date\, Yard Act have staked out a territory all their own. Setting up their own imprint Zen F.C. they released their debut 7” which can now o nly be found for exorbitant sums on Discogs\, they’ve scored two 6music pl aylists\, and they’ve won a growing fanbase with their coruscating\, narra tive driven\, spoken word dance-punk. Now girding their loins for a 2021 f illed with new music\, new recordings\, debut novels\, and (fingers crosse d) plenty of live shows\, Yard Act have most definitely marked our cards a s one of UK’s most exciting prospects.

The trio of drumme r/vocalist Burroughs\, violinist/vocalist Rosa Brook and bassist/vocalist Tom Jones have a skittish\, restless energy.
\nDespite drawing on influences such as Devo\, Wire and Television\, there are no guitars in POZI and the space afforded by the l ack of this potentially domineering component is refreshing. Instead\, the re’s Brook’s violin that by turn swells and stresses\, either buoying proc eedings along or collapsing them into discord. Jones’ rough\, scruffy bass lines hold each song tightly together as all great bassists should do. The n there’s Burroughs’ sparsely-filled but frantically driven rhythmic repet ition and his capital city yelp\, words tumbling out as though desperately trying to get out of the way of the ones behind.

For every moment of punk imperfection\, there’s an intricate flurry of detail.
\nMade up of musicians from across the consistently thriving and crimin ally overlooked UK hardcore scene (ft. The Chisel\, Big Cheese and more)\, Chubby and the Gang marinate its characteristic speed and sick-of-it-all energy in a mixture of 50s pop sounds. The result is a prickly take on the older\, more melodic genres that punk derives from\, chewing them up and spitting them out into something mangled but revitalised.
\nThrough sheer force of strength\, their debut album Speed Kills pummelled its way out of the local hardcore scene and across the Atlantic\, where it was met with a landslide of critical acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork and Roll ing Stone.

\nThe story began when three Stornoway Cove’s (Innes\, Ui lly and Boydie) met up in the house to have the craic on a Saturday night playing music with just the dog and the cat watching. After a few tunes ge tting thrown across the room Boydie stated muttering a few sentences. As h e is a man of few words no attention was really given to him until he shou ted ‘Quick\, line me out!’ Not a second to spare a set of old broken headp hones were cable tied to a guitar amp and out came a few cobwebs followed shortly after with a sound nobody had ever heard before. What came next wa s five gallons of lyrics\, verse after verse\, song after song – PEAT & DI ESEL WAS BORN!
\nThe songs won’t make much sense to the average pers on\, but the person behind the lyrics isn’t your average man so if you hav e a listen and you can relate to it you are a special breed!
\nPeat & Diesel – “Light my Byre” takes you on a journey to the heart of the West ern Isles\, where #peatlemania was born. You might have time for a brandy in the ‘Airidh’ but don’t miss your ride in Calum Dan’s Transit Van\, we a in’t stopping till we lose the water!
\nSelling out Glasgow’s iconic Barrowlands in one day as well as over 10\,000 tickets across their debut tour\, has seen the band turn a corner in the public eye and with the ban d’s second album “Uptown Fank” reaching the top 30 on release\, things jus t keep going from strength to strength!

This has been rescheduled to 30th November 2022.
\nOn the new album “A Beautiful Life”\, Heartless Bastards share a wide -eyed and radiant vision for harmonizing a broken world. The Ohio-bred and Texas-transplanted band’s first new music since 2015’s Restless Ones\, “A Beautiful Life” affirms frontwoman Erika Wennerstrom as a songwriter with the power to profoundly influence our state of mind\, often by alchemisin g her idealism into viscerally potent rock-and-roll songs. With its delica te coalescence of so many eclectic touchstones – French pop and Celtic fol k\, space rock and symphonic pop\, Disney scores and post-punk – the resul t is an album that immediately lures the listener into a more receptive mi ndset\, one that leads to deeper generosity\, greater compassion\, and a r estored sense of possibility.

P.A.I.N
\nWe are very pleased to be welcoming long time fa
ves\, P.A.I.N\, to headline a benefit for Scarecrow Corner. They played on
the SoundScape Solar Stage in Scarecow Corner a couple of years ago at th
e Fair.
\nEstablished in 1995\, The Propaganda And Information Networ
k (as P.A.I.N is officially named) was first put together from the ashes o
f two seminal free festival bands: A.O.S.3 and Radical Dance Faction. Brou
ght together to carry on the same Anarcho-style rantings\, but with a much
harder\, Punk Rock attitude to it (less toking and more drinking!) within
the first 7 days of forming P.A.I.N managed to book up a 3 week tour\, li
terally writing the set in soundchecks. The band went from strength to str
ength releasing their first live demo (Prison’s no Place for Punishment –
a real collector’s item these days\,) within their first month of existenc
e. Well that was years ago. Since then P.A.I.N. have released 2 studio alb
ums\, 2 cd singles and a couple of live albums\, and are currently working
on a new studio album and a P.A.I.N. in Dub album. “Sharpen your cutlasse
s boys\, there’s a mighty stormy sea ahead!!”

a storming set at this year’s Fair.
\nLoud\, full on and in your fac

savage humour from this West Country 3-piece.
\nThey have 2 albums ou

THE
SKRAELINGS
\nAnother long time fave of Scarecrow Corner\, we are alw
ays very happy to welcome The Skraelings to Cambridge. They have played fo
r us many times before\, both at benefit gigs and at The Fair.
\nA 5-
piece Essex-based band of noise deliverers\, with roots in the 70s punk ex
plosion.
\nEstablished in 1990\, they blazed a three year trail acros
s the stages of squatted parties and free festivals before summoning thems
elves into the timely now.
\nTheir ‘Good Medicine’ EP is produced by
Rat Scabies and Bob Earland. And they are currently working on new materia

Pulled Apart By Horses are less a gang and more one big messed-up dysfunctional family. The Leeds quartet are a tightly-knit rock band who make music that thrills and mena ces\, their songs armed with suckerpunch riffs and zinging choruses. They formed in 2008 out of the ashes of various bands in Leeds. Since then they have existed in their own chaotic ecosystem\, embarking on relentless tou rs around the world and stopping only to make 2010’s punkily infectious se lf-titled debut and its snarling 2012 follow-up “Tough Love” (produced by Gill Norton\; Pixies/Foo Fighters etc). Everything they’ve done has been d renched in a sense of youthful recklessness\, of all or nothing ardour. Wi th third album “Blood” they took things a step forward with wider musical and lyrical themes\, embracing their love of psychedelic cinema and develo ping as a band whilst retaining the thrilling ‘Horses’ sound.
\nBut life doesn’t come with a user manual. Amid the constant noise\, cla mour and confusion of the Information Age\, sometimes – as with much of th e technology which surrounds us – human beings work best after simply bein g switched off\, unplugged\, reconnected and switched back on again or mor e accurately\, the band felt a simple desire to fall in love all over agai n with the pure joy of making music.
\nWith the trials and tribulati ons of their critically acclaimed fourth album “The Haze” behind them\, Pu lled Apart By Horses are approaching the future with fresh perspectives\, open minds and a flurry of creativity writing new songs\, defining their s ound and taking back control!

\nOn the new album “A Beautiful Life”\, Heart less Bastards share a wide-eyed and radiant vision for harmonizing a broke n world. The Ohio-bred and Texas-transplanted band’s first new music since 2015’s Restless Ones\, “A Beautiful Life” affirms frontwoman Erika Wenner strom as a songwriter with the power to profoundly influence our state of mind\, often by alchemising her idealism into viscerally potent rock-and-r oll songs. With its delicate coalescence of so many eclectic touchstones – French pop and Celtic folk\, space rock and symphonic pop\, Disney scores and post-punk – the result is an album that immediately lures the listene r into a more receptive mindset\, one that leads to deeper generosity\, gr eater compassion\, and a restored sense of possibility.

But even at that young age\, having listened to his sister’s Beatles and Stone s records\, he knew he would never be able to do what they do. However\, w hen his sister got the latest Bob Dylan album\, he knew there was a place for him and he set about learning how to play guitar.
\nOtway had to wait until 1977 and the rise of punk before his dream of fame and fortune would finally become a reality. Having caught the eye of the producers of the BBC’s Old Grey Whistle Test\, Otway’s performance on that show would grab the attention of the watching audience. Otway\, ever the showman\, de cided to jump on to the amplifier of his colleague during a performance of Bob Lind’s “Cheryl’s Going Home”. (Un)fortunately for Otway\, he misjudge d his leap and sent Wild Willy Barrett’s amplifier tumbling as he crashed down straddling the box under the amp.
\nThe full force of the impac t was absorbed by the most tender part of his body\, but in doing this one simple act of recklessness and his wanton disregard for his own safety\, Otway was the talk of everyone who watched that evening’s programme.

\nShonen Knife – from Osaka\, Japan – formed in 1981 by sisters Naoko and Atsuko. Long before terms like ‘riot girrrl’ entered the lexicon\, th e all-female trio were happily snapping guitar strings to the sound of imp orted Ramones covers. Like fellow cult Japanese girl group The 5\,6\,7\,8s \, Shonen Knife have weathered decades of musical change by adhering to wh at they know best: belting out their own infectious brand of feelgood pop- punk.
\nOver the last 40 years they mig ht not have packed out out stadiums but have been credited as a huge influ ence on alt rock acts from Sonic Youth to Nirvana. \nSince their formation in 2002 Random Hand have been tearing full throttle through the UK and Eur opean scenes with their ferocious\, in your face ska-punk-metal mashup. Th e band have played countless festivals including Boomtown Fair\, Reading a nd Leeds\, Slamdunk and Rebellion\, and toured alongside the likes of Reel Big Fish\, Propagandhi and Voodoo Glow Skulls\, along with the cream of t he UK punk and ska scene.
\n“These guys take influence from the 3rd wave ska of bands like Less Than Jake and Sublime and mix it in with the m ore skate punk type stuff like early Offspring\, NOFX and Lagwagon and som e helpings of thrash metal used in the same way Sum 41 did to make their p ersonal brand\, using it’s minor chord tendencies to make a more serious a nd aggressive form of ska than many of their influences. They tick all the boxes for a f***king great ska band with raucous energy and some righteou s trombone” – Alt Corner
\nWe’ve been wanting to get Random Hand bac k in Cambridge for a good few years now\, so what better time to do this t han to help us celebrate 20 years of Last Gang In Town gigs! Expect them t o tear the place apart!

\nSometimes your ‘big b

…Talk Show’s live shows remain one of the capital city’s most beguiling prospect s\, Harrison stomping through stages and clambering around venues\, his ba rk just as bad as his bite. The album has been met with rave reviews\, with N oizze stating:
\n“A record of pure human emotion\, The Night Is For Dreamers is quite frankly a stunning body of work that directly dispels th e notion that post-rock is a genre reserved for awkward and po-faced stoic ism.”
\nThe band will be celebrating the release of their debut albu m’s release by playing The Night is for Dreamersin full.
\nIndiffere nt Engine https://www.indiffe rentengine.com/
\nThe band are inspired by early hardcore\, art punk\, post-rock\, ambient music\, pulp science fiction and outdated elect ronics.Started as a solo project of front man Adam Paul\, Indifferent Engi ne have been operating as a full band since 2019. Indifferent Engine have gigged extensively since\, featuring the largest rig of obsolete CRT TVs s till in regular use in the UK live scene.
\nBathed in the soft glow of TV static\, cut open by Adam’s stage presence – part Mark E. Smith-esqu e monologue\, part fitful screams – the band vents a nervous energy design ed to unsettle the audience. Sets are a weaving of ambient synths and samp les between frantic post-hardcore tracks. All of this leads to an intense and engaging live show with a critical visual component\, more akin to a p iece of performance art or a real-time therapy session.
\nThe band’s latest release (Canis EP\, 2021) was recorded in a derelict farmhouse bet ween the lockdowns of 2020 and released in January 2021. A combination of nervous DIY hardcore and introspective post-metal\, Canis serves as a miss ion statement for the bands future output.
\nIndifferent Engine’s ob session with obsolete technology has led to the production of DIY pedals\, cassette worship\, and hacked electronics. This includes a fully open-sou rce\, 3D printable tape delay which has captured the attention of musician s and producers across Instagram.

Initi al quantities of the vinyl version of Drill Your Own Hole were pressed wit hout a hole in the centre\, so it was necessary to drill your own hole to play it. The album spent one week at number 95 in the UK Albums Chart in N ovember 1987.
\nThey also played gigs (dressed in women’s clothing) under the name ‘Lesbian Dopeheads on Mopeds’\, supporting themselves\, and thus getting paid twice. They also performed as a fictitious East German thrash punk band “Rektüm” (they claimed to have jumped over the Berlin Wal l)\, recording an LP Sakredanus and an EP Real Horror Show under the name.
\nHowever management problems and poor sales meant that they were d ropped by Virgin in 1989. They subsequently released the album Cancer Plan et Mission on their own record label\, Naked Brain. They also recycled and used the band name ‘The Purple Fluid Exchange’ (PFX) to release their dan ce cross-over material. It was at this time that Rocket Ronnie joined the band as DJ\, sample player and dance advisor.
\nIn 1990 they release d Pernicious Nonsense\, their last studio album\, recorded with Jon Langfo rd at the Stone Room Studios and at Alaska St. Studios with house engineer Chelo Zambelli. After difficult tours in the US and UK the band broke up\ , the final blow being when the label Rough Trade\, who distributed their Naked Brain recordings\, went bankrupt owing them and many other bands con siderable amounts of cash.
\nTwo compilation albums were subsequentl y released on the Receiver record label\, From the Tomb of the Near Legend ary… (1992) and Gaye Bykers on Acid (1993). A further bootleg compilation of Virgin records studio demo’s was sold by their ex-manager (Tracy Lamott ) to Cherry Red Records – Everything’s Groovy (2001).
\nTony and Kev collaborated in 1993 to form ‘Steroid’\, releasing a CD album entitled “J ism Harvester” on Clay Records\, a crazy industrial mish mash of samples a nd guitar riffs. 25 years later they followed it up with “Scrotox Ulcer” i n May 2018 and “Baptising The Alien” in September 2018.
\nOn 22 Febr uary 2016\, it was announced that Gaye Bykers on Acid would be reforming f or a final performance at Indie Daze in October 2016 however the band have continued to tour with Mary Byker spending time between big GBOA and Pop Will Eat Itself\, 2 bands\, 1 great frontman.
