\nDoors 7.30pm
\nBodega: 8.30pm
Bodega’s new album was inspired by a book club. In the early months of 2020\, the Brooklyn art-p unk incendiaries gathered together with close friends to study the works o f a wide range of philosophers. Passionate debates lasting long into the n ight became a regular occurrence\, motivating the band to become as ideolo gically unified as the weighty tomes they were reading. “Broken Equipment” is Bodega’s attempt to interrogate the external factors that make them wh o they are\, propelling existential quandaries with tongue-in-cheek humour \, highly personal lyrics\, and irresistible grooves.
\nIn the album ’s opening moments\, vocalist Nikki Belfiglio urges listeners to “watch th e thrown.” She is joined by fellow founding member Bodega Ben\, who detail s various ways his personality is constantly influenced\, or ‘thrown’\, by phenomena such as ‘big rock ads’ or ‘the itch on my back.’ This opening s ong – “Thrown” – serves as a thesis statement for the record’s multi-facet ed exploration of how ideology and identity are shaped\, but never fixed.< /p>\n
Since Bodega’s formation in 2016\, Ben and Nikki (who previously p layed together in the band Bodega Bay) have experienced a rare meteoric ri se. The duo double as filmmakers\, earning acclaim for their 2020 erotic d rama PVT Chat starring Peter Vack\, Julia Fox\, and other recognizable fac es from the Safdie brothers’ cinematic universe. When the pandemic forced them to hit pause\, they used the opportunity to regroup with drummer/perf ormance artist Tai Lee\, bassist/philosophy professor Adam See\, and lead guitarist Dan Ryan.
\n“Broken Equipment” was produced by Ben himself with Bobby Lewis\, Bodega’s NYC live sound mixer. The record was mixed by Bryce Goggin\, whom the band sought out for his work with Pavement\, and Adam Sachs (Wives).

s year’s Cam Jazz Festival\, Cambridge Electronic Music is proud to presen
t an incredible fresh line-up featuring Yumé NET\, DJTRIO and Alex C-S. Al
l with intricately creative outlooks on sound\, technology and performance
\, expect dazzling and unique flavoured blends of nu-jazz\, hip-hop\, mode
rn jazz\, ambient and IDM electronica… all within an enhanced lighting and
sound experience.
As our lives move more and more online\, the boundaries between the natural and digital world be come increasingly blurry. Yumé NET (@yume_net) is interested in interrogating these boundaries. Whether it’s in her resea rch as a bioelectronics PhD student developing electronics that interface with the human nervous system. Or in her music\, where she crafts coruscat ing and otherworldly musical landscapes that explore what it means to be h uman in an increasingly online society. Using a meld of modern jazz and ex perimental electronic music as her framework\, Yumé sets out to tell stori es about the very personal and very human aspects of her life (platonic lo ve\, trans joy\, identity\, bigotry\, community) and how technology has tr ansformed them. Tender but heavy\, calculated but full of love\, her music invites the listener to join her in exploring what lies between and beyon d the 0s and 1s.
\nBrought together through a shared p assion of nu-jazz\, electronic music and wonky grooves\, DJTRIO (@djtriomusic) are Judah Daniels [p iano + synths] (@jdtheartist)\, Iñigo Ayestaran [electric bass] (@inigoaye strn) and Lewis Todd [drums]. Formed in 2022\, the band quickly took t he Cambridge University jazz scene by storm\, building upon their individu al reputations and captivating audiences with their interlocking sonics\, resulting in multiple sold-out shows at Clare Jazz and JazzSoc. By combini ng their individual talents and creative outlooks\, they dip into the play ful realms of musical serendipity and technology by\, for example\, proces sing bass through obscure pedals\, acoustic drums with time-based FX and r eactive side-chained synths… all in tandem with impressive licks and encap sulating grooves. Expect a highly dynamic\, energetic and eclectic set tha t incorporates lush soundscapes\, rich harmony and frenetic drumbeats.
\nBirmingham-based A lex C-S (@collets infield) is a multi-instrumentalist music producer\, performer and fil m maker\, originally from Cambridgeshire. Since graduating from Music Tech nology at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire\, Alex relocated to continue working on a wide variety of projects as a saxophonist\, guitarist\, music technologist and videographer\, most recently gaining traction as a membe r of the exciting alternative band\, Passive Fix. His solo works draw from a range of influences in jazz\, ambient\, hip-hop and experimental to blu r the lines between vibey nu jazz\, downtempo and ambient hip-hop. Expect the saxophone to be used in unique ways\, interwinding technique and techn ology whilst drawing inspirations from Pharaoh Sanders\, Shabaka Hutchings and Colin Stetson. Alex works in Ableton Live using the Push with a varie ty of contact and carefully positioned microphones to live record and laye r sounds\, augmenting sonic layers and live “remixing”\, where elements ar e recorded and manipulated in real-time through custom configured processi ng chains. Only recently\, Alex has played in the European Parliament buil ding\, a number of festival stages including the Chai Wallahs stage and Ja zz under the Apple Trees with Joe Broughton’s Conservatoire Folk Ensemble.
\nAs with all Cambridge Electronic Music shows\, expe ct a heightened immersive experience with additional lighting\, top-qualit y sound and captivating live performances.
